UPDATED GUIDELINES FOR THE BOARD LICENSURE EXAMINATIONS FOR DENTISTS
ANNEX " A " GUIDELINES IN THE PRACTICAL PHASE OF THE BOARD LICENSURE EXAMINATION FOR DENTISTS ( BLED ) DAY 1
A. CLASS II AMALGAM EXAMINATION 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Note : Phantom Heads are allowed only on a supine position
One ( 1 ) Class II Cavity Preparation ( GVBlack ) on a posterior tooth using typodont model and
One ( 1 ) Class 1 Cavity Preparation ( GVBlack ) on one posterior tooth using typodont model .
Both teeth will remain UNFILLED
B. FIXED PARTIAL DENTURE EXAMINATION 10:00 AM – 12:00 NN
Note : Phantom Heads are allowed only on a supine position
Preparation of two abutments for the reception of a Porcelain - Fused - to - Metal Fixed Partial Denture.
*** Knock down the typodont in between the abutments up to the gingival level .
C. REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURE DESIGN EXAMINATION 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
1. Bring your own maxillary and mandibular casts (dental stone ) taken from a live patient with a full complement of teeth (full dentition - fully erupted third molars) . Properly based and trimmed
2. Knock down the missing teeth on the master cast to be indicated before the start of the examination . Round off and smoothen properly the edentulous areas .
3. Using a surveyor , survey the possible abutment teeth . Place tripod marks on the cast .
4. Survey and design a Bilateral One - Piece Casting Removable Partial Denture framework on the Master Cast .
5. Transfer Design on the top answer sheet ( one answer sheet only ) .
6. Make Laboratory Prescription ( Work Authorization ) on the top answer sheet ( one answer sheet only ) .
DAY 2
A. COMPLETE DENTURE EXAMINATION 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Note : The use of a MECHANICAL ARTICULATOR as patient and with the use of a Semi Adjustable Articulator . At the start of the examination, the examinee will be given a set of diagnostic casts and a set of detached master casts.
Diagnostic Casts Determine the proper extent of the trial denture bases and individual trays
Proper blocking - out of the diagnostic casts depending on the anatomy of the denture bearing areas .

UPDATING THE PRACTICAL EXERCISE IN THE PRACTICAL PHASE OF THE LICENSURE EXAMINATION OF DENTISTRY AND PRESCRIBING GUIDELINES THEREFOR
Mounting of Master Casts *** For examinees using a Semi Adjustable Articulator , kindly set the Condylar Guidance angulations to 30 degrees and Bennett Angles to 15 degrees as applicable on the type of SAA being used .
12. Seal adjusted record bases with occlusion rims on the detached master casts .
13. Mount the casts in your own articulator
Setting of the Artificial Teeth
Demonstrate rationale for tooth selection
Determine the need to recontour and modify selected teeth to achieve desired results
Consider functional and biological factors in setting artificial teeth
*** For examinees using a Semi Adjustable Articulator , create a Fully Bilateral Balanced Scheme of Occlusion - Bonus points 10%
14. Proceed to setting of the artificial teeth .
Gingival Wax - up / Festooning
Simulate the natural characteristics of the tissue around the teeth in the wax denture
15. Perform Gingival Wax - up / Festooning .
16. Transfer wax dentures on the Articulator with Mounted Casts representing the patient .
*** Make sure wax dentures are unsealed from the master casts before passing.
Submit the following :
1. Diagnostic casts
2. Individual trays
3. Articulator with pre - mounted master casts
4. The examinees own mounted master casts with the trial wax dentures
